Job Coach Mentor-2nd Chance (Part Time)



Within the boundaries of federal, state, local, and agency regulations, the 2nd Chance Program Job Coach Mentor provides comprehensive job mentoring to young fathers ages 16 to 24 that are transitioning to back their families and the community after secure confinement. The Job Coach Mentor will provide services utilizing strength-based mentoring to ensure that participants understand job requirements and the workplace culture, retain their jobs, and are referred of additional workface development services as appropriate.





Meet with assigned program participants at least twice a month.

Provide encouragement and assistance in developing solutions to work stressors and challenges and how to deal with the impact of work on family responsibilities.

Assist participants in successfully adjusting to their work environment by meeting them after work hours.

Assist in referring and dually-enrolling eligible participants to ULR Workforce Development

Refer back to Mentor Advocate for assistance in accessing community services

Coach participants using "30 Ways to Shine as a New Employee" as a guide.

Coach participants on motivational interviewing.

Keep current, accurate and complete records for each case, including documentation of job applications and employment

Submit participant employment information to participant Mentor Advocate and Director in a timely manner.

Perform such duties as the supervisor may assign.

Attend Urban League of Rochester events.




Associates degree in Human Services or equivalent

Experience working with disadvantaged, urban adults or youth, and those with criminal backgrounds

Sensitivity and/or personal experience with key issues faced by target population

Knowledge of available community resources.

Ability to function effectively as part of a team

Ability to provide own transportation.  Valid New York State Driver’s License with clean abstract.

Ability to work evenings and weekends, when required.

Must be customer service oriented.

Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
