Job Developer - Workforce Development (Part Time)




DESCRIPTION:

Within the boundaries of federal, state, local, and agency regulations, the Job Developer will work with youth ages 18-24 who have been previously involved in the justice system to improve their employment outcomes. The Job Developer will work to address participants’ barriers while helping them obtain in-demand employment skills; link them to occupational and apprenticeship training; and place them into careers that will lead them to become self-sufficient. The Job Developer will also conduct comprehensive outreach to employers to create relevant work experience placements that will meet the needs of both the participant and employer.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assess participants’ skill levels and provide individualized counseling to assist them in developing realistic Individual Employment Plans commensurate with skill levels and experience. 
  2. Work with Program Director to develop and implement a marketing/outreach approach to attract new employer partners who will provide work experience placements and/or hire program participants once they are job ready.
  3. Work with existing pool of employer partners and new employers to create work placements, occupational training opportunities, and subsidized or unsubsidized job positions in the private sector suited to applicant and employer needs.
  4. Plan and implement job readiness training sessions for participants to prepare them to enter in-demand careers.
  5. Find job descriptions for job openings and match individuals’ skills and qualifications to the job.
  6. Link participants to job training, apprenticeship, and other vocational post-secondary opportunities.
  7. Schedule employment interviews for participants.
  8. Conduct follow-up on placements to determine participants' progress and job retention.
  9. Provide follow-up counseling when requested by either employer or participant after job placement.
  10. Maintain necessary records to ensure effective referral and placement.
  11. Submit a monthly report to Program Director that details job readiness and placement services delivered to participants.
  12. Perform such other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, education, public administration, or related social science field preferred. 
  • At least two years of experience in a related area, including administrative and employment experience is preferred.
  • Ability to relate to, communicate with, and work with a diverse population and understand the issues relating to such population.
  • Ability to relate well with others, a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Assertive with the ability to communicate effectively with trainees and employers.
  • Ability to tolerate and handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Able to provide own transportation.  Valid New York State Driver’s License with clean abstract
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, when required.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel (Spreadsheets, forms, etc.); and ability to produce required documentation.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Must be able to tolerate and handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of available community resources a plus.
