Home Store

Established in 1994, the Urban League's Home Store helps make homeownership accessible for low to moderate-income families.

As mortgage foreclosure rates rise across the country, the Home Store shows that foreclosures can be prevented when first-time buyers are thoroughly prepared and educated.

To date, over 98% of the 854 families who completed our program from 2001-2008 have avoided foreclosure!

The Home Store also offers up to $5,000 in closing cost and down payment assistance to our clients through the NYS Home Purchase Assistance Program. To qualify, families must have incomes below 80% of the area median income (for example, $46,160 for a family of three) and be purchasing a single family home in the City of Rochester.

A new partnership with Canandaigua National Bank provides up to $3,000 in closing cost and down payment assistance for Home Store clients with incomes up to 100% of the area median income (for example, up to $57,700 for a family of three).

The Home Store is pleased to announce our new Foreclosure Intervention and Default Counseling program. This program provides comprehensive foreclosure prevention counseling to individuals seeking assistance to prevent foreclosure or who are already in the foreclosure process. Counselors work closely with each individual on a one-on-one basis, to develop the best strategy and plan for each person's situation.
