Home Store

Established in 1994, the Urban League of Rochester's Home Store makes homeownership accessible for low to moderate-income families.

The Home Store was established in 1994 and since then has assisted more than 3,100 families into home ownership. The Home Store works with low and moderate-income families to provide comprehensive housing services, including one-on-one credit counseling, financial literacy counseling, pre-, and post-purchase home buyer education classes, and foreclosure prevention counseling and advocacy.

The Home Store also serves individuals in foreclosure, working with the banks to obtain a modification or another resolution to the client’s situation.

The Home Store is possible through the generous support of KeyBank, Bank of America, Citizens Bank and the Credit Builders Alliance.

 
 

Homeownership Counseling

  • Home buyer orientation workshops (1 hour)

  • Home buyer PowerPoint presentation (8-hours certificate granted)

  • Individualized counseling for potential buyers ready to buy now or in the near future

  • Grant program education, enrollment, and one-on-one counseling

  • Empowerment to make good decisions before and after the home-buying process

  • Assistance in locating grants, closing costs or down payment assistance

Credit Counseling

  • Credit report inquiry and review

  • Credit report education

  • Analysis of budget and spending habits

  • Assistance in developing savings, money management, and action plan

Foreclosure Intervention & Default Counseling

  • Comprehensive guidance to individuals in the foreclosure process

  • One-on-one counseling tailored to each client

  • Determine affordable solutions to resolve or prevent mortgage delinquency or default

Financial Education

The Urban League’s Housing Counselor works with other Urban League staff and outside community agency staff to provide financial education services to a variety of individuals and families. The goal is to help individuals improve their financial literacy and learn how to develop healthy financial habits. Services include group financial education classes and one-on-one financial counseling/coaching sessions. Both classes and sessions are held either at the Urban League’s central office or via zoom for the convenience of the community schedule including workshops at your local public library.
