Urban League hosting Mallory, Sherrills, Morial at first hybrid INTERRUPT RACISM™ Summit Sept. 19-21

On September 19-21, 2022, the Urban League of Rochester will host its third annual INTERRUPT RACISM™ Summit, presented by ESL Federal Credit Union. The INTERRUPT RACISM™ Summit is an immersive learning experience for youth and adults, uniquely designed for attendees to participate and come together to identify, interrupt, and dismantle processes of systemic racism. This year is distinguished from past events because it will feature one day of in-person programming. Tickets are on sale now.

This year’s event features a record-breaking NINE keynotes from national thought leaders on issues relating to this year’s Summit theme “Enough is Enough: Action Steps for Ending Violence and Racism in Our Communities NOW.”

Headlining this year and appearing in person on September 20 are renowned activists Tamika Mallory, one of the founders of the 2017 Women’s March, and Aqeela Sherrills, a leading expert for three decades on community-based strategies for combatting crime and gang activity. Also appearing live will be the National Urban League’s President and CEO Marc H. Morial.

“We are delighted to have the privilege of hosting Tamika Mallory, Marc Morial, and Aqeela Sherrills in person in Rochester,” said Dr. Seanelle Hawkins, President and CEO of the Urban League of Rochester. “These outstanding leaders are the best guides we could imagine for a special conversation about community-based action steps toward positive change.”

Mallory, Sherrills, and Morial are joined by over 40 other speakers and workshop facilitators on varied topics related to antiracism, including the legacy of redlining, addressing trauma, language access, and creating an inclusive work environment, among others. Full schedule details are available on the Summit website.

Setting this event apart from other similar conferences is cutting-edge technology from Bevy that allows the Summit to as closely approximate an in-person conference as possible on Days 1 and 3, which are fully virtual. This includes features like being able to change sessions at will, connect one-on-one with presenters, sit down with other attendees at networking tables, and more—all within a single login to the Summit platform website.

A limited number of student scholarships are available through the generosity of donors to the Urban League of Rochester. Companies wishing to send groups of staff to attend the Summit may have access to special group pricing. Interested persons may contact ebenedick@ulr.org for details.
