Statement on Johnson and Johnson Vaccine

Today the CDC and the FDA issued a joint statement recommending a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine. We recognize that this is concerning!

We have learned that the adverse reactions of the J&J vaccine “appear to be extremely rare," according to the CDC’s statement. With that said, we strongly encourage you to learn more, refer to the CDC’s website for developing guidance, and speak with your healthcare provider.

What we know is that of the 6.8 million people who have received the J&J vaccine in the U.S., six people developed blood clots. Because of this, a pause has been recommended as an extreme safety precaution. The New York State government has complied with this recommendation in halting the use of the J&J vaccine.

If you have questions or concerns, we urge you to contact your healthcare provider to help you determine if you have the symptoms of possible blood clotting.

The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are still available and are not associated with the blood clotting issue. We encourage you to continue to stay educated through the CDC and other reliable sources.

Sincerely,
Dr. Seanelle Hawkins
